Overview

The inaugural release. Spring Mountain Vineyard was newly formed in 1992 and released its first wine from the 1993 vintage. The estate vineyards included Chevalier, Miravalle, and Alba, with additional fruit from the neighboring York Creek vineyard – making this the only non-estate bottled wine in the SMV portfolio.

Unexpected rain mid-May during bloom led to smaller berry set, resulting in a smaller crop than in previous years. A cool summer allowed grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. These two conditions contributed to excellent fruit maturity and wine quality which was rich and concentrated with deep color. Berry flavor was intense.
