Following in the footsteps of the stellar 2018 vintage, the 2019 growing season provided yet
another opportunity to create great wines. Above-average rainfall in January, February, and March
filled aquifers and reservoirs and increased soil moisture. This cooler start resulted in a slightly
delayed bud break, but the ideal growing season continued into the summer with moderate heat and
without many heat spikes. Cool mornings and warm afternoons allowed the fruit to retain acidity
while ripening phenolics – beneficial for aging while still showing great structure and texture while
young.
